Air Max 90s aren’t the only retro runners I’ve been grabbing lately! Case in point, today we’re looking at the Nike Air Max Triax 2 aka the Triax 96 in varsity royal.
This is a retro of a shoe that dropped in 1996 and was a cult classic (although at the time this was a more budget friendly option to the more popular and expensive Tailwind line).
The shoes come with some white rope laces but also include some interesting additions. We get anatomical arch supports which is a nice bonus. More importantly, we get an old school styled Nike box with these! The classic black/red/cardboard colored box makes a return with these, similar to the recent Air Jordan 11 “Bred” drop.
This shoe is an example of a model that wasn’t that big becoming a cult classic and finally seeing a retro. I believe this is an OG colorway and I’m definitely glad to get another true retro added to the collection.
How Are The Materials?
I’m pretty sure the materials were never good on these (even on the OGs), and so a basic level of materials is to be expected on these. Although the leather is flimsy and the suede is felt-like, it totally works on these. This is definitely not a “materials” shoe but is purely a vibe/nostalgia-based pickup. If you are looking to get these, you will not be blown away by the materials, nor should you expect to be.
How Do They Fit?
I went true to size with these. Even though it looks bulky, I actually feel like these fit perfectly around my foot thanks to the shorter toebox. Underfoot these are pretty standard comfort as far as Air Max retros go.
